In the spring, we hire professional shearers to shear our alpacas. The process takes less than 10 minutes per alpaca using electric shears. Shearing helps keep the alpacas cool and comfortable while providing farmers with valuable fleece.

Once shorn, the fleece is sorted, and any debris is removed. The fleece is then washed, dried, and carded. Carding aligns the fibers, and at this stage, the fiber can be dyed or blended with other materials. The carded fiber can then be processed into yarn, roving, felt, or other materials.
